I can remember the person who helped me most as I worked my way up in my career in television.  My mentor was a great sounding board to bounce ideas off, my “go-to” for great advice when things were good and bad.  It made such a difference to me to have someone there when I needed them.  So, I promised myself that if others came to me looking for guidance some day, I’d be willing to give back, too.  And as I’ve broadened my career and launched my own company, I’ve tried to honor that promise in this arena, as well.

One opportunity to do that is with conferences, speaking to large groups, hoping to share some golden nugget of wisdom that will inspire them in some way.  That’s why I’m so excited about the Moms in Business Unite (MIBU) event happening May 19th in Atlanta.  I’ve been selected to speak at this one-day event intended to provide help to women business owners and I can’t be more pleased.

This isn’t just a feel-good get together.  The MIBU Conference has one main goal: to provide actionable content meant to help propel women businesses forward.  There are actually five conferences around the country.   These are the dates and locations:

Atlanta 5/19, San Diego 8/3; Denver 9/21, Boston 10/12, Detroit 10/19

Each is designed with different tracks to help get businesses going and growing.  They include the following:

Getting started (how to set up the business financially, create and protect your corporate identity, and helping you to decide if you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur and get started?)

Running efficiently (introducing you to leading edge technology, finding out about ways to make the most of the time you can dedicate to the company)

Taking your business to the next level (selling nationally, hiring employees, becoming leaders in your community, too)

Invention fast-track (for people who have created a product to help take it from concept to cart…attendees will walk away with a blueprint on how to take it to market and be successful)

Some cities also have awards, including a grant for a mom-owned business with a distinct need for capital.

There’s also an Inventor’s Showcase in all five cities. People in the community with new products or services will be able to showcase those items.  Attendees of the conference will vote and select the best new product.  The winner will get substantial marketing and promotion for that product.
