candylandBy Desiree and Daly Miller, Bottles to Britches Premier Baby Planners

When I was recently invited to a party hosted by Alicia with Atlanta Moms to help celebrate the newly redesigned board for Candy Land, I was incredibly excited to be able to share the fun with my five year old daughter.  She loves playing Candy Land and the invitation to celebrate this game was simply too sweet to pass up!

daly_at_farmhouse_in_the_cityThe party was hosted at a fabulous little spot in Roswell called Farmhouse in the City (which deserves a post all its own that I'll write soon) and included everything you'd expect of a party in the enchanted wonderland called Candy Land, from cupcakes (created by Aunt Kimmy's) to sugary gumpdrops to the straight sugar of pixy sticks.  And of course, we all got to play the game!

It's hard to believe, but Candy Land celebrated its 60th birthday last year.  According to the game web site, Candy Land was created back in 1949 by a San Diego, California, woman named Eleanor Abbot.  She was a recovering Polio patient who wanted to create an activity that would entertain children affected with the disease.  Little did she know just how popular this game would be with so many people through the years!  After hitting six decades it makes sense the game board would get a bit of a face lift.   Now, the rainbow path provides a bit of a different journey and my daughter and I were among the first to get to try out the all-new colorful adventure through the magical world of Candy Land.

I thought I'd interview my daughter for this article so you could enjoy the five year old's perspective.  Enjoy!

candyland_cupcakesMe: What is your favorite card to get?
Her: Blue because if you get blue as your first card you get to take a train down Peppermint Pass.
Me: Who is your favorite character?
Her: Princess Frostine.
Me: What's your favorite part of Candy Land?
Her: My favorite part is winning.
Me: What's the worst part?
Her: The worst part is going back.

That's my worst part, too.  How about you?  Did you ever play Candy Land, and if so, what was your favorite part? Leave us a comment below letting us know.
