After spending a year using the Hooter Hider as my nursing cover, some of my favorite features are:
· It is lightweight but opaque so you and baby don’t get overheated but you have complete privacy.
· The rigid neckline allows only you to see the baby (and any exposed boob!).
· The size gives complete coverage so you’re comfortable nursing anywhere.
I used this nursing cover everywhere, even in the middle of the mall!  Two thumbs up!

There's a new car seat hitting the market that parents are sure to want to check out.   It's made by Britax Child Safety Inc. and has what the engineers call "Revolutionary Head Safety Technology", offering 360 degree protection.  It's a redesign which reduces the risk of head injury in an accident and goes well beyond what the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration requires of car seat manufacturers.

These are some of the features of the seats, making this possible:

* A re-engineered lower center of gravity that creates stability in the event of a crash.

* Integrated steel bars that strengthen the connection to the vehicle and reduce forward flexing of the child seat during a crash.

* Patent-pending Britax “SafeCell" Technology with SafeCells that are designed to compress in a crash. This significantly lowers the center of gravity and counteracts the forward rotation of the child seat, which normally propels the child toward the front seat.

* Energy-Absorbing Versa-Tether® anchors the top of the car seat, minimizing forward-rotation and reducing crash forces reaching the child.

You can click the link above for a video which explains the technology.

Parents in the Athens, GA, area can be entered to win one of these seats at the baby shower being held at Rattles & Rhymes Baby Store in Athens on August 7th.  The store will also be conducting car seat safety checks for parents who make an appointment in advance.  Britax VP of Engineering and New Product Development Ron Marsilio will be showing customers a preview of the new line of BRITAX car seats featuring Revolutionary Head Safety Technology at the event.

Here’s a device that could be a real comfort to parents while visiting places or events where large crowds are expected: the SecuraPAL by SecuraTrac. It helps keep track of your child’s location. The devices can be purchased so that you have it at all times, or you can rent them while at amusement parks or on family vacations. The parents can contact SecuraTrac and the company will set up the device to work for their specific destinations. Essentially, the SecuraPAL can be programmed to alert parents if their child leaves a designated area such as a hotel, a certain part of a park, or other location. It can be used to locate a child on-demand, using a cell phone, and also has a special feature that works like a SOS button in case the child ends up separated and scared. The child would just push the button and it sends an automatic test to their parent’s cell phone with directions on how to find them. If you want to buy one instead of renting, the SecuraPAL is $199.99 and then the monthly service fee is $24.99.  They're available on their web site.
They’ve set us up with a special code for savings for anyone interested in owning their own SecuraPAL. If you use promo code MomPAL07 by July 31st you’ll get 10% off a SecuraPAL.

Any parent who has a child with allergies will tell you they always have to worry about their child’s safety, never letting down their guard. From dairy to peanut or any other food, the risk is high for real problems. Many children have close calls, often when the child is in the care of another adult who may forget about the danger of these off-limits foods. But now there’s a device that can help prevent that. It’s the Allermate, a funky wristband that comes in several colors with adorable characters that are a constant reminder to counselors, parents and babysitters that these foods are must avoids!. These bracelets serve as great reminders and they characters are fun—like P. Nutty (for peanut allergies) and Pint (the milk allergy character). They can be found in stores nationwide or online by clicking here. (Note: they also have dog tags with even more allergy alert characters). Something tells me even the children without allergies are going to want one of these!

Over the past 9 years, drop-side cribs have contributed to the deaths of 32 infants and toddlers. In response to these incidents, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has posted a warning for parents and caregivers about the hazards of drop-side cribs. According to CPSC, Chairman Inez Tenenbaum has committed to parents and caregivers that there will be a new and vastly improved mandatory federal standard for cribs this year. The standard will incorporate, at minimum, the new voluntary standard banning drop-side cribs from the United States market. Due to the new voluntary industry standard, many manufacturers have already stopped selling drop-side cribs.
