Are you following the new rules of the road when it comes to children’s car seats in Georgia?  As of July 1st, the state started requiring children under eight years old to be in an approved booster seat.  The age rule was six before.  There is an exception if the child is taller than 4’9” or has a physical or medical condition that prevents them from being restrained.  The change is intended to protect children in case of an accident.  Child safety experts suggest parents keep their children in their car or booster seats as long as possible (even beyond 8).  That’s because children have extra protection with these seats that a typical car seat and safety belt don’t offer.  If you don’t follow the law, prepare to pay.  The first offense is a $50 fine and one point on your license.  A second offense is $100 and two points.
