It's International Babywearing Week this week and we thought we'd celebrate with a giveaway, but first, a note on safety.
There's been a great deal of concern over slings/carriers and other baby wearing devices recently. There's even a warning by the CPSC about unsafe positioning. There are still many benefits to babywearing, but there are some tips you should keep in mind to make sure your baby is safe.
First, be sure to keep the child's chin off their chest (be sure you can always place two fingers between the chin and chest).
The baby's face should be in view at all times with no need to move the sling.
The baby should be high on your body and close enough to kiss the top of their head.
The baby's face should never be turned in against your body or against the sling's fabric.
And the semi-reclined or upright positions are preferable to the horizontal one.
Follow these tips and you and baby should be able to enjoy the benefits of babywearing and still be safe!Meantime, if you would like to try a sling, we have one to GIVE AWAY to one lucky reader! The great folks at Baby K'tan have given us a Baby Carrier to give to one of you. The The Baby K'tan® is a 100% natural cotton soft sling baby carrier. The Baby K'tan offers comfort and convenience, acting as a cross between a sling and a structured front baby carrier or backpack. It can be used until your baby reaches 42 pounds (if your body can handle that!) and can be worn in more than 9 unique positions. With the Baby K’tan infant carrier your baby can be carried upright (facing in or out), and as they get older, they can be carried on your hip. Infant twins can even be carried at the same time in the Baby K'tan Carrier. And it's an environmentally-friendly option, too. If you'd like to enter into the giveaway you have until midnight EST October 16th. Simply follow us on facebook by clicking here and follow Baby K'tan by clicking here. Then leave a comment below letting us know you are entered! The winner will be drawn at random on October 17th.
